Facebook today announced a new look for Messenger. This comes after the social media giant released an update on Instagram, linking the DM with Messenger.

In a blog posted by VP of Messenger, Stan Chudnovsky, titled: The Future Is Now, the company states that:

“Today, Messenger gets a new look to mark our continued evolution from a simple way to message your Facebook friends, to a place to hang out with your favourite people, on your favourite apps and devices.“

As part of the recent update released to Facebook Messenger, the app would be getting a visual update, as well as a couple of new features, allowing users wider customization options.

Some of the cool features include the support for chat themes and custom reactions. Soon, features like selfie stickers – which allows users to add icons to their pictures; and vanish mode – which will make chats disappear, will be added.

Furthermore, Stan Chudnovsky posted that:

“We recently announced cross-app communication with Instagram which will be rolled out to most users in North America soon. Messenger also powers conversations within Portal, and soon Oculus, so you can be with your favourite people wherever you are.“

One noticeable change which is meant to reflect the cross-platform capabilities of Messenger and Instagram, is the updated Messenger logo.

Facebook Messenger logo now integrates Instagram’s colour into the already known Messenger icon. This results in a shades of blue, purple and pink, instead of the usual Facebook blue.

Although, Instagram users will have to manually opt-in for this service before they can have access to the cross-platform features, Messenger users would not get the chance to make the choice, as the features would be rolled out to Messenger users by default, as soon as the features are made available in their regions.

In September, Facebook announced the integration of Instagram with Messenger, which, according to Facebook, is the biggest cross-platform integration yet.
