Instagram Testing Feed That Allows Users to Choose to only see Posts From Verified People

2 Mins read

Instagram, the popular social media platform under Meta’s banner, is constantly evolving and exploring innovative ways to engage its user base. The latest experiment in this ongoing evolution revolves around verification badges and how they can potentially influence the user experience. Instagram is currently testing a feature that allows users to view posts exclusively from verified accounts. This feature is a testament to the platform’s commitment to adapting to user preferences while fostering meaningful connections.

The Vision Behind the Feature

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, recently used his Instagram broadcast channel to offer a glimpse of the new feature. This experimental feature empowers users to fine-tune their Instagram experience by selecting the kind of content they wish to see. The options presented include:

  1. Following: The default setting, which showcases posts from all accounts you follow.
  2. Favorites: A curated feed focused on your selected favorite accounts.
  3. Meta Verified Users: A dedicated feed that exclusively displays posts from verified Instagram users.

Mosseri suggests that this innovative approach to content curation aims to enhance the visibility of businesses and creators on the platform. By creating a distinct space for Meta Verified accounts, Instagram seeks to offer an avenue for these accounts to shine more brightly.

Instagram may soon show three choices for feed viewing                                                                              Photo Credit: Adam Mosseri/ Instagram

Testing and User Feedback

Currently, the feature is in its testing phase and is accessible to a select group of users. Instagram is actively soliciting feedback to refine this new content selection mechanism. The company has not disclosed specific details about the criteria for selecting users for this test. It remains uncertain whether the feature will be limited to certain regions or rolled out globally. User feedback will play a pivotal role in shaping the feature’s final form.

Encouraging Verification

This step also aligns with Meta’s strategy to encourage more users to pursue verified status on their accounts. As per Meta’s recent policies, users have the option to obtain a verified badge through a modest subscription fee. This initiative aims to promote authenticity and trust on the platform.

In Nigeria, users interested in acquiring Meta Verified status must meet specific requirements. They need to be at least 18 years old and possess an official government-issued ID that matches the name and photo on their Instagram or Facebook account.

While Instagram continually experiments with new features, this particular exploration reflects its dedication to user preferences and the ever-changing dynamics of the digital world. The outcome of this test could reshape how users interact with content on the platform, offering greater control and personalization. Stay tuned for updates as Instagram refines and expands this feature in response to user input.
