Microsoft has released a native Copilot app for macOS, bringing its AI assistant directly to Apple computers for the first time. The app, which requires macOS 14.0 or later and an Apple M1 chip or newer, is now available in the US, UK, Canada, and gradually getting released to other parts of the world.
Similar to its Windows counterpart, the Mac version provides access to Microsoft’s AI assistant through a dedicated application rather than just a web browser. Users can activate the app with a Command + Space shortcut, mirroring the Alt + Space command used on Windows.
The macOS app includes dark mode support and allows users to upload images and generate text or images using the DALL-E 3 model. Microsoft plans to add document summarization capabilities soon, enabling users to upload text or PDF files and generate summaries or ask questions about the content.
In a related announcement, Microsoft revealed that it has made two premium Copilot features – Voice and Think Deeper – available to all users with unlimited access. Previously, these features had usage limits for free users.
The Voice feature allows conversational interactions with the AI assistant, while Think Deeper, powered by OpenAI’s o1 model, handles complex queries such as analyzing major purchase decisions with cost and long-term value considerations.

“We are working hard to scale unlimited access to advanced features to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible,” Microsoft stated in a blog post, while noting that users might experience delays during high-usage periods.
Copilot Pro subscribers will still receive priority access during peak times and early access to experimental features. The company has also updated its iPad app with split-screen functionality and now allows users to log into Copilot on iPhone or iPad using their Apple ID.
