“Applatch: An Innovative Solution to Smartphone Addiction”

The use of smartphones has become increasingly prevalent, and with it comes the problem of addiction. Studies show that over 75% of smartphone users suffer from nomophobia, the irrational fear of being without their phones. Many people find it challenging to focus on their responsibilities and manage their mental health due to the addictive apps on their phones. Fortunately, a solution has emerged in the form of Applatch.

Applatch is a mobile app founded by Opaleye Olabamiji Samson, Bolakale Mallick, and Adekola Akano that enables users to lock their addictive apps for a desired period of time. This innovative approach to promoting productivity and well-being has put this African startup on the map as the first of its kind.

One of the standout features of Applatch’s MVP is the accountability partner, which makes it harder for users to access their addictive apps before the elapsed time. Only the chosen accountability partner can grant permission to pause or end the ongoing locked session. Additionally, for every complete locked session, users earn points that go towards helping out-of-school children in Africa. The startup funds this cause through grants and executes it with the help of Lend a Hand for Africa (LAHAfrica), an experienced NGO that helps to scout for beneficiaries and ensure they receive quality education.

The CEO and COO of Applatch (Samson and Mallick) were inspired by their struggles with social media addiction and used their personal insight to conduct extensive research to create the key features of the app.
Applatch’s MVP currently has three lock features;
1. Lock now
2. Lock by daily limit
3. Schedule Lock
It also has a feature that allows users to track their overall phone usage analysis.

Applatch is currently available on Google Play Store and Palm Store, and the iOS version is currently being worked on to be released in the coming months, along with the upgraded Android version, which will include more unique features.
