Serial entrepreneur, Onyeka Akumah has finally stepped down as CEO of the agritech startup – Farmcrowdy – after almost five years at the top position of the start-up.
Following Onyeka’s resignation, co-founder of Farmcrowdy, Akindele Phillips, takes over as the CEO of the company.
Onyeka will, thereafter, be transitioned to serve at a new role, the role of Executive Chairman at Farmcrowdy, where he would provide leadership and direction to the company’s board of directors.
In an official statement posted on the start-up’s blog, the former Farmcrowdy CEO said he had built the agritech platform with a plan to exit at some point.
“However, today this chapter as CEO of Farmcrowdy has come to an end. Yes, even founders have a day they exit their own startups and that’s why I’ve preached about building with an exit in mind,” Akumah said.
Mr Akumah further added that:
“Today, I have handed over the reins of running Farmcrowdy’s day-to-day operations to my co-founder and friend, Akindele Phillips, while I take on the new responsibility as Executive Chairman.”
Mr Akumah also emphasized that he would be focusing more time and resources on running things at the bus-hailing startup – Plentywaka – where he currently heads as CEO.

About Akindele Philips
Akindele Phillips, the newly appointed CEO of Farmcrowdy, co-founded Farmcrowdy alongside Onyeka Akumah, in 2016. Mr Akindele is a seasoned entrepreneur and chartered accountant.
He worked as Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of the start-up, and also had a brief moment he served as the role of Chief Risk Officer (CRO).
After working a Senior Audit Associate at KPMG Nigeria for up to three years, he moved on, and served as Tax Coordinator for Africa at Centurion Law Group as well as a Managing Partner at Porter’s World Consult.
