Zoom is temporarily lifting the 40-minute limit on the free version of its videoconferencing app. The temporary unrestricted calls is in recognition of the upcoming holidays, and to bring people together.
According to the statement released by Zoom on its official blog, the removal of the call restriction on free accounts globally, is to help people connect with their friends and family over the many upcoming holidays.
“As a token of appreciation to our users during an extraordinary time, we’re removing the 40-minute limit on free Zoom accounts for all meetings globally for several upcoming special occasions,” Zoom said.
The limitless meetings would be available for periods covering Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and New Year day’s celebration.

According to Zoom, the days to enjoy unlimited meetings are as follows:
- 4 p.m. Nigerian time (10 a.m. ET) Thursday, Dec. 17, to 12 p.m. (6 a.m. ET) Saturday, Dec. 19.
- 4 p.m. Nigerian time (10 a.m. ET) Wednesday, Dec. 23, to 12 p.m. (6 a.m. ET) Saturday, Dec. 26.
- 4 p.m. Nigerian time (10 a.m. ET) on Wednesday, Dec. 30, to 12 p.m. (6 a.m. ET) on Saturday, Jan. 2.
The videoconferencing company has, in recent times, shown its resolve to support its users, especially those on the free version, during holidays seasons.
The company, during Thanksgiving celebration, lifted the 40-minutes limits on free version, so that people could connect without traveling distances, and exposing themselves to covid-19.
Similar to Zoom’s unlimited calls for the holidays, Google Meet is also allowing its users make calls without its usual restriction. Since September 30th, Google Meet has been allowing its users make 24-hour long calls on its app, and would continue this till the last day of March, 2021.
