Another Company Raises Security Concerns over TikTok

1 Mins read

As waves of allegations hit TikTok from everywhere, the popular short video app have been hit by another blow as Wells Fargo reportedly sends instructions to its employees to remove the app from their company devices.

The instruction by Wells Fargo comes as the increase in security concerns over how TikTok handles user information, as well as their privacy control, and security breaches.

One of Wells Fargo’s spokesperson was reported by The Verge to have said: “We have identified a small number of Wells Fargo employees with corporate owned devices, who had installed the TikTok application on their device”. “Due to concerns about TikTok’s privacy and security controls and practices, and because corporate-owned devices should be used for corporate business only, we have directed our employees to remove the app from their devices”.

This new development made Wells Fargo the latest company to raise concerns over TikTok’s modus operandi.

TikTok is an app developed the Chinese company – ByteDance. The app had since April, reached 2 billion downloads, with a lot of it’s users being of the teenage, and young demography. The app was recently revealed to gain access to users’ clipboard data when running on background. The revelation was made on the beta version of iOS 14 which has a feature that inform users when an app has access, or uses the data on the clipboard.

On Friday, Amazon was reported to have sent an email to its employees to uninstall the app from their mobile devices, siting security reasons. Amazon has later made a notice to clarify that the email was sent in error, emphasizing that as regards the TikTok app, no changes has come to their policy at the moment.

United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo have also said earlier in the week that the US government is considering the move to ban TikTok app.
