Starlink, the satellite internet provider, has announced a dramatic price increase for its services in Nigeria, with monthly subscription rates set to nearly double from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000 starting January 27, 2025.
The company is also raising hardware costs, with its router price jumping from ₦440,000 to ₦590,000. New customers will face these increased rates immediately, while existing subscribers will see changes in their upcoming bills.
This marks Starlink’s second attempt at implementing a price hike in Nigeria. A similar increase in October 2024 was blocked by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for lacking regulatory approval, forcing the company to temporarily suspend the changes and issue refunds to affected customers.
Part of the email sent to subscribers reads: “To continue enhancing the Starlink network and delivering reliable, high-quality service across Nigeria, we are adjusting our monthly subscription prices.” Starlink justifies the price hike by noting that the increase is important in order to maintain its infrastructure investments. The company’s mobile global roaming service will also see a significant price adjustment, rising to ₦717,000 monthly.

The timing of this announcement coincides with expectations that the NCC will approve its first industry-wide tariff hike in a decade during the first quarter of 2025, following sustained pressure from telecom operators citing operational losses.
This latest price adjustment follows Starlink’s volatile pricing history in Nigeria since its January 2023 launch, including several price fluctuations influenced by naira exchange rates. Industry experts warn that these increases might make satellite internet services increasingly accessible only to middle and high-income earners.
