8 African startups make TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield 200

Eight innovative startups operating in Africa have secured coveted spots in TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield 200 for 2024. This global competition which is known for catapulting early-stage ventures into the spotlight, offers participants a chance to pitch their ideas to top investors and compete for a $100,000 equity-free prize.

The African startups, comprising seven Nigerian startups and one from Morocco, will showcase their groundbreaking solutions in San Francisco from October 28-30, 2024. These companies represent a diverse range of sectors, from blockchain and healthcare to HR tech and fintech:

  1. Convexity (Nigeria): Enhancing transparency in humanitarian aid distribution through blockchain.
  2. Eight Medical (Nigeria): Connecting emergency medical resources with those in urgent need.
  3. Growwr (Nigeria): Using AI to streamline hiring processes for African talent.
  4. Gwala (Morocco): Simplifying payroll and employee benefits across Africa.
  5. Passportmonie (Nigeria): Facilitating travel payments in local currencies.
  6. Sync! (Nigeria): An all-in-one collaboration platform for remote and in-office teams.
  7. Validproof (Nigeria): Combating counterfeit medicines with authentication solutions.
  8. Wimika RMS (Nigeria): Offering cyber fraud protection with quick reimbursement promises.

This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the competition’s track record. Startup Battlefield alumni have collectively raised over $29 billion in funding, with approximately 200 exits among the 1,300+ companies that have participated.
