Telegram has created new ways for its users to earn money

1 Mins read

Telegram, the popular messaging app boasting nearly 1 billion users worldwide, has announced new features aimed at helping content creators monetize their channels. The platform is introducing a suite of tools that leverage its digital currency, Stars, and the cryptocurrency Toncoin (TON).

Telegram now allows creators to offer paid monthly subscriptions for exclusive content. Users can purchase these subscriptions using Stars, Telegram’s in-app currency. Creators have the flexibility to set their own prices and can convert earned Stars into Toncoin or use them to subsidize advertising on the platform.

Additionally, Telegram has launched “Star Reactions,” a feature enabling users to directly support their favorite content creators. Similar to YouTube’s “Super Thanks” and X’s Tips feature, Star Reactions allow fans to send Stars to creators, who receive 100% of the value.

These new monetization options build upon Telegram’s existing efforts to help creators earn money. The platform recently introduced ad revenue sharing and the ability to share paid content within channels.

Notably, Telegram’s integration with The Open Network (TON) blockchain continues to deepen. While Telegram doesn’t operate the TON network, it has embraced its native cryptocurrency, Toncoin, which is currently the ninth-largest digital asset by market capitalization.

The announcement comes as Telegram approaches a milestone of 1 billion active users, a goal the company aims to achieve this year. With profitability expected in 2025, Telegram is reportedly considering going public.

As social media platforms compete for creator attention, Telegram’s crypto-friendly approach offers a unique proposition. By combining traditional monetization methods with blockchain technology, the app is positioning itself as an innovative platform for content creators in the digital age.
