Elon Musk’s Starlink is establishing cutting-edge ground stations across the country. This ambitious project, spanning approximately 29,000 acres, aims to dramatically enhance internet connectivity for millions of Nigerians.
The initiative will see state-of-the-art facilities erected in three strategic locations: Okun Ajah (Lagos State), Sagamu (Ogun State), and Port Harcourt (Rivers State). Construction is already underway in Lagos, with completion slated for late 2024, while the other sites are expected to be operational by 2025.
Partnering with data center giant Equinix, Starlink is leveraging local expertise to bring this vision to life. The collaboration builds on Equinix’s 2022 acquisition of MainOne, solidifying its presence in the Nigerian market.
These ground stations will serve as crucial links between Starlink’s low-orbit satellites and terrestrial internet infrastructure. By eliminating the need for international data routing, the new system promises to slash latency and boost overall internet performance across Nigeria.

Since its 2022 entry into the Nigerian market, Starlink has rapidly ascended to become the country’s third-largest Internet Service Provider (ISP).
