6 Unique ways to Free Up Storage on Your Windows PC without deleting your valuable files.

2 Mins read

In the fast-paced digital age, managing storage space on your Windows PC is a perpetual challenge. The accumulation of temporary files and clutter can significantly slow down your system’s performance. Fear not, for there are simple yet effective steps to reclaim that valuable disk space and ensure your PC operates at its optimal capacity. You don’t have to start deleting your valuable files. Are you ready to learn this trick? let’s dive in.

1. Delete Temporary files

Navigate to the Temporary Files:

  • To initiate the process, press “Win + R” to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type ‘temp’ and hit Enter. This action opens the “temp” folder, where temporary files reside.
  • Once inside the “temp” folder, select all files (Ctrl + A) and delete them.
  • Some files may not be removed if they are currently in use. Skip these files and proceed with the deletion.

Explore Additional Temporary Files:

  • Repeat the process by reopening the Run dialog (Win + R).
  • This time, type ‘%temp%’ and press Enter. You will be directed to another temporary files folder.
  • Similar to the previous step, select all files within the ‘%temp%’ folder and delete them.
  • As before, if certain files cannot be deleted due to active processes, skip them.

2. Utilize Disk Cleanup Tool:

  • Windows comes equipped with a built-in Disk Cleanup tool. To access it, type “Disk Cleanup” in the Windows search bar and select the corresponding utility.
  • Choose the drive you want to clean (usually C: drive) and let the tool analyze potential files to delete.
  • Select the file types you wish to remove, and proceed by clicking “OK” and then “Delete Files.”

3. Uninstall Unnecessary Applications:

  • Navigate to “Settings” and select “Apps.”
  • Review the list of installed applications and uninstall any that are no longer necessary.

4. Manage System Restore Points:

  • Type “Create a restore point” in the Windows search bar and select the utility.
  • In the “System Protection” tab, click on “Configure.”
  • Adjust the maximum disk space used for system restore points according to your preferences.

5. Transfer Files to External Storage:

  • Move large files such as videos, photos, or documents to an external storage device or cloud storage.

6. Perform Disk Cleanup in Command Prompt:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Type ‘cleanmgr’ and press Enter to initiate the Disk Cleanup tool in a more advanced mode.
  • Select the drive to clean, choose the file types, and proceed with the cleanup.

Conclusion

Periodically repeat these steps to ensure your PC stays clutter-free and operates smoothly.
Implementing these steps can significantly enhance your Windows PC’s performance by freeing up valuable storage space. By incorporating these practices into your routine, you’ll maintain an efficient and streamlined computing experience.
