Intel Core, Apple M1 and AMD: which processor should you choose?

2 Mins read

When it comes to buying a new laptop, one of the most important factors to consider is the processor. With so many options on the market, it can be difficult to know which one to choose. Let’s have a breakdown of the three processors – Intel Core, Apple M1 chip, and AMD, and see which will suit you.

Intel Core

Intel Core processors have been around for a long time. They are found in many laptops running Windows operating systems. They are known for their power and performance, making them a popular choice for gamers, video editors, and other professionals who need a lot of processing power. The latest generation of Intel Core processors, the 13th generation (codenamed Raptor Lake), offers up to 6 GHz of processing power and can handle up to 16 cores and 32 threads. This means more processing spread and multitasking.

Apple M1

Apple’s M1 chip, on the other hand, is a newcomer to the processor game. It was introduced in late 2020 and is found in the latest models of the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini. The M1 chip is designed specifically for use in Apple products and is known for its efficiency and long battery life. It has up to 8 cores and can handle up to 16 threads, making it a powerful contender in the processor market. Apple has recently released the M2 chip, which packs 18% more processing power than the M1 chip. Generally, the M1 chips are best used in devices that need a basic productivity performance, while the more advanced chips – like the M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, and M2 series – are saved for more powerful machines that need a lot more horsepower.

AMD

Finally, we have AMD processors, which are found in laptops from a variety of manufacturers, including HP, Dell, and Lenovo. AMD processors are known for their affordability and are often found in budget-friendly laptops. However, they also offer impressive performance, with the latest Ryzen processors offering up to 8 cores and 16 threads.

Which processor is the best choice for you?

It really depends on your needs. If you are a gamer or video editor who needs a lot of processing power, an Intel Core processor might be the best choice for you. If you are looking for efficiency and long battery life, the Apple M1 chip is a great option. And if you are on a budget but still want good performance, an AMD processor is definitely worth considering.

All three processors have their own strengths and weaknesses. It is important to consider your needs and budget when choosing a processor for your new laptop.
