Google has unveiled its AI-powered coding bot for Android developers, named Studio Bot, during its I/O event.
This tool has been developed to generate code, resolve issues, and answer Android-related queries, which will help developers build apps. The bot supports Kotlin and Java programming languages and has been built on the company’s new foundational coding model Codey, which comes from its updated PaLM 2 large language model (LLM).
The tool can be found directly in the toolbar of Android Studio and can debug a portion of the developer’s code or provide prompt answers to their questions. Though Google has stated that developers don’t need to share their source code with the company to use Studio Bot, they will receive data on their interactions with the bot.
However, the bot is still in its early stages and only available to US developers through the Canary channel for now. It remains to be seen when a global launch will be announced. Google’s introduction of this new AI-powered coding tool is part of its continued push into the field of AI.

With Bard chatbot already released, Google has been working on adding more features to it, such as generating, debugging, and explaining lines of code. This standalone coding assistant puts Google in competition with Microsoft and Amazon, which have their AI-powered coding tools that developers can integrate into different integrated development environments (IDE).
