Mafab communications, one of the telecommunications companies that won the bid for the 5G 3.5GHz Spectrum licences, has launched its 5G services, and rolled out services in selected states in Nigeria.
The company, through its Chairman and Founder, Dr. Musbahu Bashir, said that the company has targeted six Nigerian cities for its initial launch, with plans in place to add more cities in the near future. The pilot cities marked for the launch of Mafab’s 5G services include Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna.
“The rollout of Mafab SG network is the beginning of immense opportunities for the country as it represents Nigeria’s capabilities and infinite possibilities. The prospect of increased job opportunities as a consequence of the value-chain benefits the technology will generate and offer is the dream we have all gathered here to launch today,” Dr Bashir said.
With the new age of 5G network and the continued integration into mainstream technologies, it is expected that almost all aspects of life will be affected by the innovation. Industries like education, medical sciences, engineering, security, businesses, banking sector, SMEs, smart cities, transportation, entertainment, will be logged into the moving train of super fast data transfer, and only the people that join the train will experience it.

“They will be the ones that will stay competitive and the ones who will lead in innovation in addition to bringing socio-economic benefits to their citizens. And so, I can declare that with the 5G infrastructure, Nigeria will surely be ahead of many other countries, especially in Africa. Indeed, with the 5G network, our future as a people and as a country is remarkably bright”, Dr Bashir added.
Mafab, which is a new player in the telecommunications industry, won the bid alongside industry giants like MTN Nigeria, and Airtel Nigeria. The bid cost Mafab and MTN Nigeria $276m, while Airtel Nigeria dropped out of the initial bid. Airtel Nigeria later won a sole bid for the 100 MHz spectrum in the 3500MHz band.
