Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) prize competition, a initiative of the Jack Ma Foundation, is calling for application from eligible entities to participate in this year’s edition of ABH prize competition.
Entrepreneurs from all 54 African countries, regardless of sector, age group, and gender, are enjoined to submit their applications for a chance to compete for a spot among the Top 10 finalists.
The application is expected to be submitted either be in English, or French.
The central theme of this year’s competition is: “It’s African Time.” The theme is a bold call to action for all talented African entrepreneurs who are challenging stereotypes associated with “African time” – through their businesses – to leverage the ABH prize to scale their efforts as well as share their stories of how they’ve driven change and solutions.
Jack Ma Foundation, through the ABH, has a long-term commitment to foster an inclusive and strong African entrepreneurial ecosystem. The ABH plans to provide funding, training, and mentoring to 100 African entrepreneur within 10 years.
The 10 finalists, at the grand finale, will take the stage to present their businesses and share their visions to the panel of judges, in order to get a share of the US$1.5 million grant.
The ten finalists from the 2020 edition of the competition were selected from over 22,000 applicants spread across 54 African nations.

The 2020 Africa’s Business Heroes prize was won by Chebet Lesan, Founder and CEO at BrightGreen Renewable Energy.
Other winners are spread across countries like: Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe; with specialization in the agriculture, fashion, education, healthcare, renewable energy, and financial industries.
Applications will be open online until June 7, and semi-finalists would be announced in August. The top 10 finalists for 2021 will be unveiled in September.
