The global digital money transfer service, WorldRemit, has announced the launch of its WorldRemit Entrepreneurship Program.
The entrepreneurship program, which is targeted at African community, was launched in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, as well as in Zimbabwe.
According to the Fintech establishment, the programme is part of its commitment to create opportunities and facilitate development in Africa.
WorldRemit also made it known that it is launching the investment initiative to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially after many of the MSMEs took serious hits due to the striking blow dealt them by the global Coronavirus pandemic.
The entrepreneurship program will start in November 2020, and proceed till the end of January 2021. The program is billed to focus on empowering 50 entrepreneurs from the four African countries earlier listed.
Sharon Karuga Kinyanjui, MEA MD and Head of East & Central Africa at WorldRemit made a statement about WorldRemit’s commitment to support MSMEs:
“We believe that entrepreneurs are critical to the growth of our economies, and as a business, we have a responsibility to support them through initiatives like this, especially during these unprecedented times.”
Sharon Karuga Kinyanjui further said that:

We want to see other entrepreneurs experience the same level of success and beyond, because we know that when they do succeed, it has a ripple effect that will see the African continent succeed too.”
Gbenga Okejimi, Country Manager, Nigeria and Ghana, WorldRemit, also reiterated WorldRemit’s commitment to African entrepreneurs:
“At WorldRemit, we want to be known for fostering the African entrepreneurship spirit. We want to be a part of Africa’s future prosperity. By helping build entrepreneurs across our African markets, we are enabling growth and development.”
According to a report by Tribune, the training module will be delivered in partnership with The Nest, a pan-African tech incubation hub.
To participate in the entrepreneurship program, WorldRemit customers from all around the world are to send a minimum of £50 (or its equivalent value in their local currency) to Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya or Zimbabwe between the 2nd of November and 31st of December, 2020.
Winner would be selected through a draw, and the selected entrepreneurs would receive the WorldRemit Business Booster pack, as well as access to the digital training course.
