Electric car manufacturer – Tesla – branched out from making cars, to launch Tesla Tequila. The $250 booze was launched on Tesla’s website on Thursday night, and was sold out within hours.
According to the website, Tesla Tequila is “an exclusive, premium 100% de agave tequila añejo aged in French oak barrels, featuring a dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish.”
The product, which already has a “sold out” stamp on the sales page, is in a bottle shaped as a lightning. It has an alcohol content of 40%, and the sale was limited to two bottles per person.
It is however, unclear if Tesla plans to make more bottles of the tequila, or it would be a one-time limited edition.
According to the Tesla, the tequila “was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, and it has flavours of fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper.”
The tequila content of the lightning-shaped bottle was made by Nosotros Tequila. Nosotros Tequila is a California based tequila producer that typically sells bottles for less than $50.
From checks online, vendors have already started listing empty bottles of Tesla Tequila as collector’s item for pre-order on eBay. Prices range from from about $200 to as high as a few thousands of USD.
Tesla Tequila started two years ago as some sort of April fool’s joke. Elon Musk posted a tweet that Tesla had gone completely and totally bankrupt, and he was found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by “Teslaquilla” bottles.
Some of the Twitter users that engaged his tweet encouraged him to launch the drink.
Although, the name of the drink is different from the “Teslaquilla” Elon Musk used in his 2 year old tweet, the billionaire made a tweet that shows the relationship between both Teslaquilla and Tesla Tequila.
