An 11 year old boy, Ifeoluwa Olusanya, has emerged the winner of the 2020 edition of the Next Robotics Legend Competition.
The competition, which closed out last weekend, had Ifeoluwa emerging as the overall winner among over a thousand applicants.
According to reports, the boy designed Tropical Robotic Farming Solution (TRFS) – a robot – with the intention of solving key problems he identified within the agricultural sector.
Some of the problems identified by Ifeoluwa include the “inability to detect soil diseases promptly and the lack of intelligent agricultural equipment to control the rate of plant nutrients and fertilisers needed for crops to grow maximally.“
After his declaration as the winner of the competition, Ifeoluwa could not hold back his joy. He showed his excitement, and expressed appreciation to the organizers of the competition.
“It was a surreal feeling when I was announced as the winner of the program. The 6-week programme was very interesting and educative and I learnt a lot. I am excited because I will be able to build my own robots through the mentorship programme. Thank you, Union Bank and Awarri,” Ifeoluwa said.
The competition was organized by Union Bank’s Educational platform – Edu360 – as well as Awarri – a company founded by Silas Adekunle, an international robotics engineer renowned for creating the world’s first intelligent gaming robot.
The competition had 25 participants at the 6-week training program. Participants were given tablets with preloaded information, as well as a robot that “offers an unparalleled education experience in advanced robotics.”
Ifeoluwa, who proferred the most innovative and sustainable solution to a social problem within their community, won himself an opportunity to be part of a mentorship program with Awarri.
