Samsung to stop adding chargers to Smartphones

Starting 2021, Samsung might stop adding chargers to the box of newly bought devices. According to a report on Korean news website: ETnews, Samsung is planning to go ahead with this move because they believe many people already have chargers, and this would help reduce the cost that would have been on the production of those chargers.

The exact details of when this would start, and how the South Korean company plan to implement this plan has not been confirmed, but Samsung is expected to exclude chargers starting with some models released next year.

Chargers are not expensive, and as the market has already been saturated, the manufacturer have chosen to reduce costs by removing chargers from the boxes of new smartphones.

According to a report on ETnews, “It is expected that Samsung Electronics’ policy will also affect related industries. Samsung Electronics is the world’s largest manufacturer of around 400 million smartphones annually.

If Samsung Electronics reduces the purchase of chargers, it will inevitably have a negative impact on the companies that supplied them. Charger companies need to find a new place to buy or jump into direct marketing to consumers. Currently, there are three domestic companies that supply chargers to Samsung Electronics.”

Earlier in the month, there was suspicion that Apple may exclude chargers and ear pods from future devices.

Venture capitalist, MG Siegler, points out some reasons that could make Apple take such a decision. Some of the reasons he pointed at is that Apple might be doing this to reduce shipping cost, or to find a way to foster a green environment. It is believed that a lot of chargers are not recycled, thereby, causing environmental hazards and pollution.

Siegler also adds that Apple could be trailing this path as a mean of getting to the future they envision. Apple has once teased the decision to transition to a time when iPhones would not have charging port.

Some commentators have said that Apple’s decision to dump chargers might be from a selfish move. The commentators claim Apple would be charging their customers more, while giving them less.
