Google One launch Dark Web Report Feature, Expand VPN Access to Users on All Plans

2 Mins read

Dark Web Reports are an advanced feature that helps users monitor their personal information on the darkest corners of the internet. Google One users in the US will now be able to monitor their information on the darkest corners of the internet. The company has also expanded access to VPN by Google One to all plans. The service was previously only accessible to users subscribed to the Premium 2TB plan. In a recent update, Google also rolled out Magic Eraser support and HDR effects for videos for Google one subscribers and older Pixel smartphone users.

All Google One US subscribers now have access to a new dark Web report feature. Google claimed this new feature will help subscribers to scan the dark Web for their personal info — like their name, address, email, phone number, and Social Security Number — and will notify them if a match is found.

As soon as the dark Web report feature is activated, users can enter and select the information they wish to monitor in the monitoring profile. Any matching information that is discovered on the dark Web will be notified to the user and suggestions on securing that information will be provided. For instance, if Google finds someone’s Social Security number on the dark Web, it may advise them to report it as stolen to the government or take steps to protect their credit records.

In addition to the personal information listed on the monitoring profile, the dark Web report will also reveal other relevant information that may be obtained through security breaches. A user’s monitoring profile is handled according to Google’s privacy policies, and the user can delete or stop tracking at any time. The dark Web report will be available to members of all Google One plans in the US over the next few weeks.

Additionally, Google is expanding VPN access to all Google One members, including the Basic plan that starts at $1.99/month, starting today and rolling out over several weeks across Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac systems in 22 countries. The members can also share the VPN with up to five other Google One subscribers if they’re included in the primary Google One plan.

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a technology that creates a secure and encrypted connection between a user’s device and the internet, by routing the user’s internet traffic through a remote server. VPNs are designed to protect the user’s online privacy and security by encrypting their internet traffic and masking their IP address, making it difficult for hackers, advertisers, and government agencies to track their online activities or access their sensitive information. By using a VPN, users can access the internet from any location and enjoy greater online freedom, privacy, and security, even when using public Wi-Fi networks. VPNs are commonly used by businesses, travelers, and individuals who seek to protect their online privacy, bypass internet censorship, or access restricted content.
